For greater flexibility during post-production, the C70 also offers Canon's Log 2 and Log 3 gamma modes, both of which provide an expanded dynamic range with excellent tonal reproduction for highlights and in low-light areas of your images. The EOS C70 also supports .cube 3D LUTs so you can get the most accurate colour reproduction on both the LCD and your external viewing monitors.
This lightweight cine camera also incorporates a 3.5" Direct Touch Control LCD panel for quick, easy setting changes, and both auto-ISO and auto-gain functions for on-the-go adjustments to changing light levels. Furthermore, a new, thinner ND filter system gives up to 10-stops of ND filtration, providing filmmakers with the flexibility to control exposure while keeping control over the depth of field and enabling significant bokeh, even when using a high-speed lens.
The EOS C70 cinema camera features one HDMI Type-A output, a BNC timecode input/output, and a USB Type-C port for control or linking to an external Wi-Fi adapter for streaming. It supports up to 4-channel audio using dual mini-XLR ports, an internal stereo mic, and a 3.5mm mic input. It comes with a detachable handle unit, a mic holder, a shoulder strap, one BPA-30 battery, a battery charger, an AC adapter with power cord, and a port cap.
Taking advantage of its Super 35mm Dual Gain Output (DGO) sensor, seen in the highly acclaimed EOS C300 Mark III, the EOS C70 delivers exceptional image quality with over 16 stops of dynamic range. Much like the EOS C300 Mark III, the EOS C70 produces the same true-to-life, cinematic colours, exceptionally clean low-light image quality and superb HDR acquisition capabilities.
Thanks to the DGO sensor, and powerful DIGIC DV 7 processor the EOS C70 is an ideal choice for professionals looking to produce high-quality content in 4K. It also supports slow-motion capture with 4K 120p recording – with Dual Pixel CMOS AF support, as well as an audio recording. For those who desire higher frame rates, 180p is also available in Super16 mode. Recording to Dual SD cards in Canon’s XF-AVC format with 4K 4:2:2 10-bit, the EOS C70 captures high-resolution footage for a wide range of applications, from documentary and journalism to music videos and web-based content.
Canon C70's DGO sensor produces images optimized for HDR by creating two images. One prioritizes highlights and the other prioritizes shadows and dark areas. This sensor is capable of 16+ stops of dynamic range with reduced noise in the shadows and improved low light performance.
The DGO works* across all ISO ranges on the C70 up to 60p S35 4K recording, including 2K Super 16mm Crop mode up to 180 fps, and results in:
Canon has also as a first for Cinema EOS cameras included an Auto ISO option in the C70. The Auto ISO can be set to either High or Low in the menu. This feature makes going from outdoors to indoors in one shot a more practical scenario when shooting with minimal crew.
With its new chip design and DIG!C DV7 processor, the EOS C70 is capable of ultra-high frame rates. Capture video at frame rates up to 120 fps in 4K and up to 180 fps in the 2K crop mode. Dual Pixel AF is supported by the EOS C70 even at high frame rates, keeping your focus even when used on a gimbal or drone.
The EOS C70 supports the higher-compression Long GOP for longer recording times at rates up to 4K60p. The inter-frame Long GOP compression detects differences between frames by referring to preceding and subsequent frames.
In addition to supporting Canon’s renowned Dual Pixel AF System, it is also the first Cinema EOS System camera to feature the revolutionary EOS iTR AF X (Intelligent Tracking and Recognition) system seen in the newly-launched EOS R5. The system uses a face and head detection algorithm that works in conjunction with Face Detection AF to greatly improve the reliability of focusing on and tracking the subject.
To smooth out handheld shots, EOS C70 is the first Cinema EOS camera to offer enhanced image stabilization with coordinated control. When used with an RF-mount lens and the EOS C70's electronic IS, coordinated control optimizes hand-shake correction for even greater vibration reduction than that obtained with an EF-mount lens and electronic IS.
When working in the 2K format, the EOS C70's Super16 Digital IS improves performance by using the peripheral area around the center of the 4K sensor to stabilize the image.
Designed specifically for the EOS C70's short flange distance, a thin motorized ND filter unit enables users to quickly select up to 10 stops of neutral density - an especially handy feature for ENG shooters or when shooting in quickly changing lighting conditions.
You can activate the ND through the touchscreen or via the ND buttons on the side of the camera.
Dual SD card slots on the EOS C70 enable simultaneous recording in different formats including 4K/HD and XF-AVC/MP4 options.
Canon has taken what people loved about the handgrips that have appeared on various Cinema EOS cameras over the years and integrated it into the C70’s body.
Many of the EOS C70 camera controls have been configured around the right grip, allowing you to access and change various settings while holding the camera. Three custom dials and a joystick are placed on the grip in an ergonomic layout. The custom dials can be set to perform various functions such as iris, ISO/gain, WB selection and colour temperature.
