The Canon RF 100mm F2.8L Macro IS USM Lens combines a medium-telephoto field of view with a sleek design and close-focusing performance. Designed for close-up imagery, this autofocus lens is an ideal choice for portraits and macro subjects.
Featuring a fixed 100mm focal length, a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture, fast, highly precise autofocus, and a spherical aberration control ring, this lens elevates the look of portraits and macro shots and gives you the ability to create dreamlike and romantic images with a soft-focus look.
This lens also has an interesting new feature where a new Spherical Aberration (SA) Control Ring allows you to change the bokeh depiction and out-of-focus areas. For a more defined bokeh or a softer more washed-out look depending on subject matter, distance and aperture.
The close focus design enables working with subject matter as close as 26cm away, and a Super Spectra coating minimizes ghosting and flare when working in strong lighting conditions. The lens also features optical image stabilization, along with Hybrid IS, to suppress up to five stops of camera shake for cleaner, steadier shooting, and image makers can expect to see stunning results that enhance their creative and artistic vision.
Please Note: Lens shown in use for illustration only, lens collar tripod foot is not included.
The RF 100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM lens distinguishes itself by maintaining incredibly high image quality, edge-to-edge, even wide open at its f/2.8 maximum aperture. With 17 elements in 13 groups and a 9-blade aperture system, it can deliver detailed images with gorgeous background blur and versatility in low light.
Canon combines lens and camera data, helping to dramatically reduce the effect of camera shake that can occur when using handheld. This applies when capturing both stills and video, with up to 5 stops of stabilization for accurate and clear imagery.
The RF 100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM is equipped with dual independent Nano USMs to help achieve high-speed and focus accuracy throughout its focusing range.
This helps you quickly focus and keep up with fast-moving subjects as well as provides smooth and virtually silent autofocus while shooting movies, so there is relatively no disturbance for you, the subject or in what you see visually and hear audibly during shooting and playback.
The RF 100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM is the first Canon lens to feature an adjustable Spherical Aberration (SA) control ring on the lens barrel that allows you to adjust the depiction of the image’s background bokeh.
This effect is at its greatest at maximum aperture, and the effect decreases as the aperture is stopped down (Aperture Priority AE mode is recommended). The effect of the SA control ring depends on the subject conditions (subject and background, foreground distance, etc.).
Use this unique feature to add emphasis to your imagery by changing the shape and character of the foreground and background bokeh.
SA Control Ring Lock
The SA Control Ring can easily be differentiated from the Control Ring and Focusing Ring, thanks to its notably different surface finish. A lock mechanism found on the side of the lens can also be used to lock the SA control ring to the middle position rendering standard, traditional operation, with no SA optical effects.
The RF100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM lens has a separate, independent Control Ring that is located towards the front of the lens, which can be programmable for immediate exposure adjustments during still and video shooting. With the Control Ring, you can directly adjust settings such as shutter speed, lens aperture, exposure compensation and more.
For reliable performance even when weather conditions get difficult, the RF100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM lens features dust- and weather-resistant construction in the lens mount, switch panel and all rings. Sealing is applied to lens joining sections, and switch panels to help prevent water and dust from entering into the lens. The RF 100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM lens also features fluorine coatings on the front and rearmost surfaces to help prevent dirt and dust from sticking to the lens, making it easy to clean smudges and fingerprints off.
