The Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary Lens is a versatile wide-angle to portrait-length zoom characterized by its f/2.8 constant maximum aperture. True to the Contemporary line's core concept, the 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary was developed to offer the right balance of performance and portability, and as such, this large-aperture standard zoom delivers outstanding image quality that rivals Art line lenses in a body light enough for day-to-day use.

More lightweight and compact than similar 24-70mm lenses, it's optical design is based on the 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Art and incorporates two FLD and two SLD low-dispersion elements plus three aspherical elements that reduce a variety of aberrations to achieve high sharpness, enhanced clarity, and improved colour accuracy.

The Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary Lens features just one lightweight focusing element, which keeps the AF unit small. This, along with a quiet and fast stepping motor, makes for responsive and near-silent autofocus performance, an ideal combination for filmmakers looking for a high-performance, lightweight, and easy-to-handle camera system that works well with a gimbal or other accessories.

Each optical surface features Super Multi-Layer and Nano Porous coatings to improve contrast and colour rendering by suppressing lens flare and ghosting for optimal light transmission, and an added water- and oil-repellent coating on the front optic helps keep the lens free from smudges and droplets. The weather-sealed design benefits working in trying environmental conditions, and a nine-blade rounded diaphragm contributes a pleasing bokeh quality when using wider apertures.

Lightweight & Compact ― ideal for day-to-day use

Starting at 28mm has allowed a significant reduction in the size of the 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary lens body. In order to fit with the design concept of the Contemporary line, which balances performance with portability, this new lens features simpler dust- and splash-proof structure and smaller switches than the 24-70mm ART. Which in turn makes it the smallest and lightest lens in its class.

  • The 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary weighs in at only 470g
  • One single lightweight focusing element keeps the AF unit small and along with a quiet and fast stepping motor, makes for responsive and near-silent autofocus performance.

Superb Build Quality

With priority given to optimal portability, the body of the SIGMA 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary consists primarily of lightweight parts but thanks to Sigma's ingenuity no compromise has been made whatsoever on build quality.

One reason for this is that it uses a type of polycarbonate called TSC (Thermally Stable Composite), which has a comparable level of thermal shrinkage to aluminium. This helps reduce differences between the thermal shrinkage of the metal and non-metal parts, ensuring stable levels of performance even in an environment with extreme temperature changes.

Sigma's careful treatment to the precision of the zoom and focus ring parts and movement adjustment with appropriate lubricant, ensures they offer a precise action with an exceptionally high-quality feel.
