A world-first with a constant F2.8 aperture in an ultra-wide 12-24mm lens. Equipped with three newly designed, high precision XA (extreme aspherical) lens elements effectively minimize astigmatism, coma, and field curvature right out to the image edges. This is combined with three ED (extra-low dispersion) and two Super ED glass elements, this lens offers exception resolution and superb suppression of chromatic aberrations.

XD Linear AF Motor Technology for Fast and Precise Autofocus

The XD Linear Motors have been developed to deliver higher thrust and efficiency than conventional types in order to make the most of the evolving speed performance of current and future Sony camera bodies.

These revolutionary AF motors are used to, in particular, improve moving-subject tracking performance. This means that the full speed performance of advanced camera bodies can be applied to capturing perfect images of the most dynamic wide-angle sports or wildlife subjects with the Sony FE 12-24mm F/2.8 GM Lens.

The XD Linear motors are further supported by new algorithms developed specifically for them, notably improving the motors’ response to control signals and minimizing lag and instability that can occur when driving a large aperture focus lens group for quiet, low-vibration operation.

Focus Ring

Linear Response MF provides excellent response and fine linear focus control often sought after for videography use.

Programmable Focus Hold Button

This button while pressed allows you to hold the focus as its standard operation, but you can also customize the functionality in-camera via body menu depending on camera model.

Integrated Lens Hood

The FE 12-24mm F/2.8 GM lens' integrated lens hood effectively blocks off-axis light that can cause flare and ghosting or lower contrast.

Focus Mode Switch

Manual or autofocus can be selected via the lens without having to look away from the viewfinder.

Exterior & Sealing

The Sony FE 12-24mm F/2.8 GM Lens features sealing on all buttons and rings for dust and moisture resistance*. Its hybrid metal and engineered plastic construction offer high durability and low weight at 847 g.
