The Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A RXD Sony E (APS-C) is a large aperture everyday zoom lens for Sony E-mount APS-C cameras offering a broad zoom range, excellent image quality and versatile F2.8 maximum aperture across the whole zoom range. This lens focuses very close, featuring a minimum object distance of 0.19m at the wide-angle and 0.39m at the telephoto end for expressive images with highly blurred backgrounds. The small and lightweight design also includes Tamron's proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) which utilises AI technology when shooting video for stable footage.

Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A RXD Sony E (APS-C) features Moisture-Resistant Construction, Fluorine Coating and a φ67mm filter size – the same as the Tamron series of lenses for full-frame mirrorless cameras. Compatible with many of the features that Sony builds into its cameras, including Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF, the lens is the ideal everyday zoom lens for a multitude of situations. It is a highly practical lens that enables photographers to attain high image quality while enjoying the benefits of the large F2.8 aperture.

 

Outstanding optical performance

With a focal length range of 17-70mm, equivalent to 25.5-105mm on full-frame cameras. The Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A RXD Sony E (APS-C) is the first F2.8 high-speed zoom lens in the world for APS-C mirrorless cameras to achieve a 4.1x zoom ratio.

The optical construction of the new 17-70mm F2.8 is equally impressive and features 16 elements in 12 groups. Two GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lens elements and one hybrid aspherical lens element are precisely arranged to maintain high-resolution performance from edge to edge.

Vibration Compensation (VC) for worry-free still photography and video capture

The Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A RXD Sony E (APS-C) utilizes highly regarded VC image stabilisation to maximize the optical performance of the lens when shooting handheld by effectively compensating camera shake. When shooting video, image stabilisation is further improved by leveraging AI technology compared to more conventional modes of stabilisation.

RXD Stepping Motor for Precise Autofocus

The AF drive incorporates an RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) stepping motor unit. The RXD actuator is able to precisely control the rotational angle of the motor, allowing it to drive the focusing lens directly without the use of a reduction gear. Additionally, a dedicated sensor senses the position of the lens to a high degree of accuracy - enabling both high-speed and precise AF which allows to maintain razor-sharp focus when shooting moving subjects or filming video.
