The Tokina ATX-I 100MM f2.8 Macro Lens - Nikon is a compact medium tele macro lens for Nikon full-frame format film and digital SLR cameras. Being light-weight, compact, performing high resolution, fast aperture, low distortion, low falloff and beautiful soft bokeh this lens is an extremely attractive tool for macro, portraits, landscapes, street art, commercial and general-purpose shooting.
This short telephoto macro lens offers a life-size, 1:1 maximum magnification along with a 30cm minimum focusing distance. Tokina ATX-I 100MM f2.8 Macro Lens - Nikon uses a flat-field optical design to yield realistic rendering, void of field curvature, as well as high sharpness and clarity throughout the focusing range. A multilayered coating has also been applied to reduce lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and improved colour fidelity.
Complementing the optics, this lens features a One-Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism for fast-changing between AF and MF settings, and a focus range limiter switch helps to achieve faster focusing performance at close-up distances.
Please note: Autofocus is not supported by DSLRs lacking an autofocus motor, such as the D3000-series, D5000-series, D40, D40X, and D60, where the lens may be used with manual focus only.
To achieve exceptional optical performance in still and video shooting purposes, two aspherical glass elements and two Super-Low Dispersion glass elements were used in order to minimize distortion, manage spherical aberration and astigmatism while achieving excellent edge-to-edge resolution and contrast of the entire image. Great efforts were done to control light fall-off at all focal lengths.
The incorporated 9 bladed diaphragm creates beautiful, almost circular-shaped background highlights up to f/5.6 with effectively surpassed longitudinal chromatic aberration.
The Tokina atx-i 100mm F2.8 FF MACRO incorporates all the necessary features and provides all the main advantages for dedicated macro shooters. The lens is capable of life-sized (1:1) reproduction at 30 cm. This allows photographers to have a little working distance from the subject and still obtain impressive magnification. Having some working distance is important when shooting easily startled subjects such as insects.
The front of the lens has a 55mm filter threads which extend during the focusing but does not rotate. This allows different filters including polarizers to be used for landscape or product photography.
A focus range limiter switch on the side of the lens locks the lens focus into or out of the macro focusing range to avoid excessive AF hunting.
The Tokina atx-i 100mm F2.8 FF MACRO Nikon F mount is equipped with manual aperture ring based on Ai AF Nikkor D-Type* lens standard that allows using this lens with a wide variety of cameras including old Nikon film cameras.
Leaving the honourable AT-X abbreviation, the letter "i" was newly added. "i" stands for "interactive", implying mutual communication between the photographer and the lens. Exterior, specifications and performance of Tokina's popular and well-acknowledged so far AT-X PRO lenses are reconsidered with the contemporary cameras in mind and launched under atx-i brand.
