The Leica Q2 Reporter Edition continues a long tradition of Leica cameras specifically designed to meet the challenges of reportage and press photography. Along with its robust exterior, the camera is distinguished by a particularly unobtrusive appearance – enabling the photographer to work without drawing undue attention. For this purpose, the red Leica dot and the coloured engravings were consciously omitted from this product variant.
This design variant of the Leica Q2 is enveloped in a ‘body armour’ made of Kevlar® – a synthetic material known for its exceptional resilience. Over time, exposure to natural UV rays will change the fabric’s colour, until it matches the dark green, highly scratch-resistant finish of the camera body. In addition to these traits, the Leica Q2 Reporter offers the same level of protection against dust and water ingress as the serial model.
A synthetic material used in high-grade protective clothing. Kevlar® fibres are so tightly spun that they are almost impossible to separate. In addition to excellent grip, it is also resistant to chemical and thermal hazards. As a result, the Q2 Reporter’s Kevlar® trim – woven in a distinctive pattern – offers outstanding protection even in the harshest conditions.
Featuring a redeveloped imaging system, the Q2 incorporates a high-resolution 47.3MP full-frame CMOS sensor along with an updated Maestro II image processor, which lends more flexible image creation along with smooth color and tonal rendering, a broad 13-stop dynamic range, low noise, and a wide sensitivity range from ISO 50-50000. Processing capabilities also afford fast shooting performance, up to 10 fps at full-resolution with a mechanical shutter, along with an especially quick 49-area autofocus system. Stills can be recorded as 14-bit DNG files and JPEGs. The added resolution also enables unique digital zoom capabilities to simulate working with different focal length lenses: 30MP images can be created using a 35mm field of view, 15MP images with a 50mm field of view, and 7MP with a 75mm field of view.
Key to the popularity of the Q-series is the incorporation of a fixed Summilux 28mm f/1.7 wide-angle prime lens, ensuring exceptional imaging performance. Blending Leica's optical know-how with a design perfectly matched to the image sensor, this lens incorporates three aspherical elements to control distortion and spherical aberrations for sharp and accurate rendering.
The fast initial aperture of f/1.7 guarantees optimum picture quality in even the most difficult lighting situations - excelling in low-light conditions and offering improved control over depth of field. Extending its versatility, a dedicated macro focusing position can also be used for working with subjects as close as 17 cm away.
Additionally, with its digital zoom of up to 75mm, the Leica Q2 can make a perfect companion for street photography as well as shooting architecture, landscapes, and portraits. An optical image stabilization unit also helps to compensate for the effects of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting - highlighting the greatest possible creative freedom in composing exceptional black-and-white images.
The newly developed, high-resolution OLED viewfinder has a resolution of 3.68 megapixels. The high resolution provides an ideal view and live preview of your subject at all times, with improved image depth and higher contrast.
To ensure you never miss a treasured moment, the Leica Q2 boasts an autofocus system that sharply focuses on your subject in 0.15 seconds, the fastest in its class. With its high-speed burst shooting rate of an impressive 10 frames per second at the full resolution of 47.3 MP, the Leica Q2 is built to capture what you want, whenever you need.
The combination of the excellent Leica Summilux lens and the ability to capture video with 4K resolution unlocks new creative perspectives. For brilliant, true-to-life moving pictures, the new Leica Q2 offers a 4K video mode with 3840 x 2160 pixels and frame rates of 30 or 24 frames per second.

This means that it can brave even the most unfavourable weather conditions without the need for any additional protective measures.
