The technical details behind this camera

A fantastic addition to the Nikon Z Mirrorless range, and offered at a more accessible price point than its full-frame counterparts, the Z50 offers a great shooting experience, and outstanding image quality, and the smaller DX-sized sensor enables a much more portable Z experience. Lightning-fast 4K video shooting and a credible 20MP output, with the usable benefits of Eye Autofocus and a cool LCD tilt-down screen, will surely appeal to Vloggers, families keen to capture their adventures, and the serious traveler alike.

Still shooting at pace and keen Auto focus

With 209 Autofocusing points and the ability to shoot up to 11 frames per second this camera is fast enough to deliver snap shots, ideal for families keen to capture life’s action in vivid detail. If you want to capture a sequential movement even more smoothly, the Z50 lets you shoot 8-megapixel images at even faster 30 frames per second in silent video mode. It’s also tons of fun for the solo shooter on the go. Simply point the camera towards yourself, flip the tilting monitor 180° downward to face you, and the Z50 will immediately turn into a selfie camera. When used in this position, the operation buttons and dials are locked except for the shutter release button, so you can maintain a firm grip. This means you can compose the shot without worrying about pressing the wrong button, use touch AF on the LCD monitor to achieve focus and capture selfies in high-quality stills and movies.

4k Video functionality

Capture beautiful 16:9 4K UHD/30p video using the whole frame. Amaze yourself and your audience with the variety of looks available from NIKKOR Z lenses, from wide-angle to telephoto. The Z 50 offers beautiful output with minimum noise at high ISO, 1080/120p for slow motion, and smooth, accurate, and silent AF for video. You can even touch to focus using the LCD monitor, for fast transitions between subjects. Focus peaking is available in both 4K UHD and 1080p recording, assisting manual focusing with easier confirmation on the monitor. Travellers purchasing this camera to take advantage of the portability and still image quality affordability will love the inclusion of 4K video functionality. Capturing bursts of movement is as much about the journey as a memorable still pic and 4K captures a massive 4 times greater resolution than High-definition HD. Images that can be zoomed in post-production, cut to close-ups and enhance transitions for a truly sophisticated production. Family users will love the clarity and smooth transitions offered. From first steps to soccer mums this is a terrific option for the future.

Mirrorless technology saves on size and enables speed and image quality

Mirrorless functionality enables a number of differences in the shooting experience over the mirrored equivalent DX product. Noticeably, the mirror takes up room and by removing it there is a space saving in the body size. The purpose of the mirror is to reflect the image into an optical view finder and by replacing the mirror the view of the subject is offered via the screen on the back of an electronic image via the tiny screen within the viewfinder. The geometry of the distance between the lens mount and the sensor also changes enabling changes to the size of the mount and more light is available to the sensor. As photography is literally painting with light, more light available opens the door to increased options to capture and express yourself creatively.

With Nikon Nikkor Z DX 18-140mm f/3.5-6.3VR

The NIKKOR Z DX 18-140mm f/3.5-6.3 VR is a lens that can explore it all with you. Go from detailed wide-angle landscapes to lovely street scenes to telephoto close-ups with beautifully blurred backgrounds, even macro-style shots, all with a single lightweight DX-format lens that delivers outstanding image quality shot after shot. The NIKKOR Z DX 18-140mm f/3.5-6.3 VR can cover just about any shot. It smoothly zooms from a wide-angle 18mm (27mm equivalent on DX cameras), through the sweet spots of the focal length range - 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 105mm - all the way up to the 140mm of telephoto power (210mm equivalent on DX cameras). Built-in VR image stabilisation counteracts hand-held camera shake for steadier videos and sharper photos. It also lets you shoot stills at slower shutter speeds without causing motion blur. Make smooth iris transitions and exposure adjustments thanks to an electromagnetic diaphragm. The ultra-quiet stepping motor prevents focus drive sounds from being captured on film, and focus breathing is greatly suppressed. Get as close as 20 centimeters* from your subject and fill the frame with macro-style details at a large 0.33x reproduction ratio. This is great for tabletop shots and food photography, where you can’t exactly back up. The smooth click-less control ring can be customised for the way you shoot. Use it for precise manual focusing or to adjust aperture, ISO, or exposure compensation.
